i’m sorry i keep using you as a model armin but you do the look such justice
after i posted my Scouting Legion Lolita-Inspired Uniform idea the other day, i got a LOT of feedback about cosplaying the design, and first of all i’d like to say thank you so much for the support! i figured that since there’s been so much interest in my redesign AU idea i’d make some stylesheets so as to give people a better idea of exactly what the design is meant to look like and function as.
if you guys have any more questions at all, feel free to ask me! (also i’m still waiting on somebody to draw reiner in this pls)
A lot of people (myself included!) are interested in cosplaying this design, so here are some materials suggestions!
Something light, you’re going to have a lot of layers, so a linen or cotton would be good. But remember light doesn’t mean cheap, you don’t want a see-through or scratchy shirt!
You can use organza or tulle with a top layer of a light fabric like gauze or linen, or even muslin. These are more for shape and won’t be seen very much.
Cotton! This is the typical material of most lolita skirts/dresses.
Not sure the proper name for this, but the dark brown part. I’d suggest either a non-glossy imitation leather material, or you could mix things up a little and use velvet here.
Twill, which is good for military style jackets in general!
A variety of materials could be used here. Velvet would look nice, but of course is pricey and very warm. A knit material like jersey could also be used! Just make sure your materials drapes well. You can add interfacing to the hood if you feel it needs more shape.
ALSO DON’T FORGET TO LINE THE HOOD AND CLOAK, it will make it look nicer and hide you seams! Lining everything else isn’t necessary in my opinion, you can just finish off your seams. (Pinking, serging, zig-zagging, or fray-checking! Or you could be extra fancy and use french/incased seams)
Also remember these are just my suggestions!
Thank you so much! I might also suggest chiffon for the petticoat even if it insulates more than tulle, purely because it keeps a poof much, much better regardless of how often you might be sitting on it. if you can’t get a chiffon petti, classical puppets' petticoats are never a disappointment. i have the super fluffy bell-shape petti and it would be perfect for the skirt here, but if you're planning on having the skirt bunch slightly near the bottom to forcefully keep the shape, their a-line petti would also fill it out just fine
(sensei, your face … LOL)
